Atkins Companies and Woodmont Properties Convert Planned 10,000-Square-Foot Retail Building to Medical Space in Washington Square Town Center to Meet Sustained Demand

Negotiate Pre-Lease with Axia Women’s Health for 7,000 Square Feet

Washington Township, N.J. (July 13, 2020) – Atkins Companies and Woodmont Properties, two multigenerational commercial real estate development, investment, and property management firms, have broken ground on the third and final planned 10,000-square-foot standalone retail building at Washington Square Town Center located at 247 Hurffville-Cross Keys Road in Washington Township, N.J. Amid sustained strong area demand for medical office space, the joint venture partners announce the building is being converted to medical use and they have pre-leased 7,000 square feet to Axia Women’s Health.

The 35-acre mixed-use community was initially planned to include 30,000 square feet of retail space spread across three buildings, but upon recognizing the tremendous unmet demand in the local market, Atkins and Woodmont adapted their plans to instead incorporate additional medical space. Through dedicating the entire third building to healthcare usage, Atkins was able to pre-lease 7,000 square feet within the building to Axia Women’s Health, a fast-growing network of OB/GYN physicians, breast health centers, high-risk pregnancy centers, laboratories, urogynecology, and fertility centers with locations across the northeast.

The decision to create additional purpose-built medical space will bolster the roster of prominent healthcare users already operating out of the state-of-the-art, 40,000-square-foot Rothman Medical Building which anchors the project, including Rothman Orthopaedics, The Heart House cardiology group, Jefferson Health Outpatient Imaging, and Advocare OB/GYN. Additionally, two of the three standalone 10,000-square-foot buildings nearing completion will include or already incorporate a diverse blend of retail and medical users, including PetCheck Animal Urgent Care, Strive Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, Bison Coffee Company, Lavish Spa and Nails, and Jenaro’s Trattoria Italian restaurant.

The construction of the third and final retail building at Washington Square Town Center marks the final phase of the ambitious project to transform a vacant 35-acre piece of land into one of the nation’s most unique and vibrant mixed-use communities. Developed through a partnership between Atkins and Woodmont , the innovative, mixed-use community features 330 residential apartments, 100 townhomes, an assisted living facility, and the aforementioned 30,000 square feet of retail space and the 40,000-square-foot fully leased, Class-A medical office building.

The third and final retail-turned-medical building is expected to be complete and ready for occupancy by Spring 2021.
