Inpatient Projects: ‘Destination’ cancer care is the goal

Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital board approves $220 million for first two phases

The first phase of Sarasota Memorial’s three-phase plan to build a destination cancer program would entail constructing a 170,000 square foot, seven-story inpatient and surgical oncology complex on its main campus.

Currently, there are four cancer centers in Florida that could be considered “destinations” for patients seeking comprehensive care. Sarasota Memorial Health Care System in Sarasota, Fla., along the Gulf Coast, is hoping to eventually join that group with new facilities and an upgraded cancer care program, with the largest expansion taking place on the campus of its 635-bed Sarasota Memorial Hospital, which has been growing its average daily patient census in recent years.
