Hospital launches new service line to provide high-quality cancer care to the community
Florence, AL – On September 18, North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC), part of LifePoint Health, ceremoniously broke ground on a new cancer center that will be added to its main campus in Florence, Alabama. A small group of leaders from the hospital and LifePoint gathered to celebrate the first dig marking the beginning of construction for Northwest Alabama Cancer Care, LLC. The facility is made possible by a $13.6 million investment from LifePoint Health.
“We are excited to break ground and begin construction on this new facility, which will expand our service offerings and ensure high-quality cancer care close to home for those we serve,” said Russell Pigg, North Alabama market president and chief executive officer of NAMC. “Today, we take another exciting step in advancing our mission of Making Communities Healthier, and we look forward to seeing this important project come to fruition.”
The nearly 13,000-square-foot cancer center will occupy existing shell space within the medical office building on the hospital’s main campus and expand the facility’s overall footprint. It will offer a wide range of cancer treatment and support services under one roof, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion therapy, lab services and an onsite pharmacy. The facility will feature advanced technology and equipment, including a linear accelerator for providing radiation treatments to patients. It will also house a CT simulator, which allows for precise treatment planning by transmitting X-rays through tissue to create a detailed graphic display of the tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. The facility will include three radiation oncology exam rooms, two medical oncology exam rooms, seven infusion spaces, and dedicated waiting areas and office space.
The architect for the Northwest Alabama Cancer Care, LLC project will be Earl Swensson Associates, Inc. The facility is expected to be completed and open to the public in early 2022.
