Birmingham, Ala. — Johnson Healthcare Real Estate, a Birmingham, Alabama-based development, project management, and real estate services firm, recently broke ground on a new 101,000 medical office building in Austin, Texas. The building, along with a 290-space parking garage, will be located at Lamar Boulevard and 32nd Street on the campus of Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin in Austin, Texas.
Ascension Seton, Capital Medical Clinic, and The OB/GYN Group of Austin will occupy the building, which is slated to open in June 2021. Ascension Seton will serve patients with cardiology, complex spine, and outpatient imaging services. “The significant growth in the Austin market over the past decade has led to this expansion of the Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin campus,” said Ray Anderson, Chief Strategy Officer at Ascension Seton. “We look forward to serving the people of Central Texas and beyond in this new, state-of-the-art building.”
Capital Medical Clinic, whose Internal Medicine physicians have served Austin, Texas since 1934, will relocate its existing practice. “We are excited to have the opportunity to plan and design our new space to meet the needs of our patients,” said Kenneth Kroll, MD, Managing Partner of Capital Medical Clinic.
The Lamar Boulevard building marks Johnson’s 17th development project for Ascension over the past 25 years. “We are extremely proud of our relationship with Ascension over the past three decades, and we are grateful for the opportunity to continue to support their mission across the country,” said Steve Wheeler, Senior Vice President of Development for Johnson.
Site development and construction has begun on the site, with a forecasted completion of late spring 2021. Michael Barksdale, Vice President of Project Management for Johnson, says they are managing around delays related to the COVID-19 epidemic: “We have worked closely with the City of Austin, our design partners, and general contractor to mitigate any schedule issues related to the virus.”
Stantec is the architect on the project, working from their Austin, Texas location. Birmingham, Alabama-based Hoar Construction will serve as the general contractor, operating from their Austin office.
