News Release: The Sanders Trust completes $23 million rehabilitation hospital development in Iowa

Mercy Iowa City Rehabilitation Hospital Is Open

Birmingham, Ala. – The Sanders Trust, one of the nation’s leading healthcare real estate investment companies, has announced the completion of construction on the Mercy Iowa City Rehabilitation Hospital. The freestanding facility is located in Coralville, just outside of Iowa City, Iowa.

The 54,000 square foot Mercy Iowa City Rehabilitation Hospital is dedicated to the treatment and recovery of individuals who have experienced a loss of function due to an injury or illness.  The facility features 40 private patient rooms, along with large interdisciplinary gyms, a transitional living apartment and therapeutic courtyards.  The Rehabilitation Hospital also features a secured traumatic brain injury unit with its own private dining area and therapy gym.

The joint venture between Mercy Iowa City, an affiliate of MercyOne, and Kindred Healthcare Operating, LLC selected The Sanders Trust as their development partner for the project.  The Sanders Trust owns the real estate and the Rehabilitation Hospital will be operated by the Mercy/Kindred joint venture.

Earl Swensson Associates, a nationally-recognized architecture firm based in Nashville, designed the building. JE Dunn, also from Nashville, served as General Contractor on the project.
