News Release: The Sanders Trust Announces The Development Of $24 Million Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital In Fort Smith, Arkansas

Company Enters Its 28th State

Birmingham, Ala. – The Sanders Trust, one of the nation’s leading healthcare real estate investment companies, announces the recent groundbreaking for the development of a new $24 million inpatient rehabilitation hospital (“hospital”) in Fort Smith, AR.

Mercy Hospital Fort Smith, part of the Mercy Health System in St. Louis, and Kindred Healthcare have entered into a joint venture to operate the hospital upon completion. Mercy / Kindred selected The Sanders Trust as the developer to finance, construct and own the 40-bed, 53,000 square foot hospital.

This hospital will serve patients who require rehabilitation following a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or similar medical problems. Patients will be provided with nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, and related services to post-acute patients for whom the average stay is approximately 13 days.

The hospital will be located on Chad Colley Boulevard in Fort Smith, AR. The Sanders Trust will work with the architectural firm Earl Swensson Associates based in Nashville, TN and general contractor McCarthy Construction headquartered in St. Louis, MO to complete the project.
