News Release: Skanska USA Celebrates Grand Opening of Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill

New 465,000 square foot New Jersey hospital highlights increasing demand for innovative construction methods in healthcare delivery

Philadelphia, PAOn November 8, Skanska USA, one of the world’s leading construction and development firms, celebrated the grand opening of Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. The new five-story, 465,000 square-foot inpatient hospital is Gloucester County’s first hospital to open in 45 years and will help meet growing demand in the region.

With its partners Array Architects and Leach Wallace Associates, Skanska built Inspira Medical Center Mullica Hill using the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) approach, Skanska’s largest IPD project to date in North America. The approach, which brings together the client, designer and builder to align stakeholders and streamline project execution, brought approximately 400 local full-time jobs to the construction site.

The new hospital will provide inpatient hospital care with 210 private rooms, state-of-the-art surgical suites, a modern emergency department with dedicated pediatric and senior ERs, and a maternity center. The project also includes a new central utility plant and solar field, which provides electrical power, heating/hot water and chilled water to the facility.

“Skanska’s extensive experience in healthcare, coupled with Inspira Health’s commitment to innovative delivery methods, enabled us to build an exceptional health center to meet the growing needs of Gloucester County residents,” said Todd Lofgren, Skanska USA Executive Vice President and General Manager. “Using the IPD approach, we were able to work efficiently and collaboratively to deliver this incredible project on time for Inspira and the community.”

“Today’s milestone is the realization of our long-term vision to provide exceptional care in a state-of-the-art facility to the residents of Gloucester County,” said John DiAngelo, president and CEO, Inspira Health. “Skanska has been an incredible partner throughout the process, helping to keep the project on track so we can better serve our local community for years to come.”

In addition to the new hospital, Skanska is also building Inspira Health’s new Leading-Edge Cancer Center, slated to open in early 2020. An attached addition to the main hospital building, the new cancer center spans 120,000 square feet and will provided comprehensive cancer services all under one roof. By co-locating medical, radiation and surgical oncologists in one space, patients who need to see multiple specialists will be able to do so in one visit, in one location and possibly in the same exam room. Support services, including nutrition counseling, physical therapy, patient navigation and social work, will also be provided in the cancer center. The addition will also be home to several suites devoted to non-cancer-related clinical and office functions.

This is the third major hospital project for Skanska USA in the Delaware Valley in the last year. Skanska is also building the Women and Children’s Health Building for ChristianaCare in Newark, Delaware, which is slated for completion in 2020, and a new inpatient hospital for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in King of Prussia, PA.
