Hammes Company celebrates groundbreaking of Virginia Hospital Center expansion project
Arlington, Va., and Milwaukee, Wis., October 23, 2019 – Hammes Company, the nation’s leading healthcare developer as ranked by Modern Healthcare’s Construction and Design Survey, celebrated the groundbreaking of the Virginia Hospital Center (VHC) expansion project on October 22. The expansion will take place in phases, first with the construction of a new 1,700-car parking garage followed by the hospital’s new 250,000-square foot, seven-story outpatient center on its Edison Street site, just north of its current campus.
Hammes Company was first engaged by VHC to complete a facility master plan to guide the hospital’s growth and expansion strategy. Hammes Company was subsequently engaged through a competitive process to provide project management services for the expansion, which includes advising on all aspects of the design, construction and occupancy planning for the new facility. The architect for the project is HDR and the construction manager is Skanska USA Building.
