News Release: Taylor Design Celebrates Groundbreaking with Kindred Healthcare and Palomar Health

San Diego, Calif. (August 27, 2019) — Taylor Design, an employee-owned architectural, interior design and design strategy firm, joined Kindred Healthcare, Pacific Medical Buildings, Palomar Health, and McCarthy Building Companies to celebrate the groundbreaking of a new acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital. The forthcoming two-story, 58,000 square-foot facility features 52 inpatient beds and is located on the campus of Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, California.  The hospital is expected to be open by early 2021.

“We are excited to work with Kindred Healthcare and Palomar Health on this joint venture to enhance the rehabilitation services offered to patients in the San Diego community,” said Joe Lowe, Associate and San Diego Office Leader of Taylor Design. “This new facility will provide state-of-the-art technology and treatment options to meet the needs of the growing population of patients that require comprehensive rehabilitation care.”

In 2017, Kindred and Palomar selected Taylor Design to design the new facility to support an expansion in rehabilitation services. Taylor Design’s strategy-based design concepts were informed by Kindred’s mission to provide quality care and support in the most appropriate setting for those recovering from illness or injury. The new hospital will offer treatment services to a variety of rehabilitation patient types, including brain injury and stroke patients. This will be San Diego County’s first standalone rehabilitation hospital.
