News Release: Henry Ford Moving into New Royal Oak City Center

Royal Oak– Already home to a robust business community, downtown Royal Oak will be getting another boost with today’s announcement that the Henry Ford Health System will occupy the entirety of the new Royal Oak City Center when it is complete. Just months after breaking ground on the development, the Boji Group began working with Henry Ford, and the City of Royal Oak, to bring one of the nation’s leading health care providers to Royal Oak.

The state-of-the-art development is expected to attract thousands of unique visitors annually to the City of Royal Oak. Henry Ford’s six-story, 145,000-square-foot, high-tech outpatient medical center is expected to open in mid-2020.

“It’s always a thrill to have the opportunity to partner with an esteemed Michigan organization like Henry Ford Health System and to help bring them into the thriving Royal Oak community,” said Ron Boji, Boji Group president. “Identifying a committed partner to occupy the entire building immediately is a tremendous win for the city and its local economy.

“Henry Ford’s employees and patients will start adding to the foot traffic in Royal Oak right away, and local restaurants and businesses will immediately feel the economic impact and benefit of those new, daytime visitors.”

“We’re delighted to partner with the City of Royal Oak and Boji Group on this major development,” said Bob Riney, president of Healthcare Operations and chief operating officer for Henry Ford. “Royal Oak is a thriving community and we look forward to being a community partner beyond providing health care. We are committed to providing an exceptional experience for our current and new patients and meeting their health care needs close to home. The services and clinic hours we have planned will be optimal for patients of all ages.”

“This announcement furthers our vision of growth for Royal Oak as we continue to show that our community is the best place to live, work, and spend time,” said Mayor Michael Fournier. “The project will not only generate a number of quality local jobs, but as a flagship Michigan healthcare provider, Henry Ford will help bring new people to our city every year.

“This will create immense positive economic impact in the city for years to come. We’re thankful to the Boji Group and Henry Ford Health System, as well as our committed team at the city, for their diligent work to bring this asset to Royal Oak.”

The new medical center will be staffed by more than 200 employees, including physicians, nurses and support staff. The staff will also include about a dozen employees who will relocate into the larger, more expansive facility from their current location at 26300 Woodward in Royal Oak. Henry Ford is evaluating its future options for the Woodward site.

Services will include women’s health, pediatrics, sports medicine, rehabilitation, radiology, primary care and outpatient surgery. A walk-in clinic, retail eye care services, a retail pharmacy and a cafe are planned for the first floor.

For the convenience of patients, the medical center will open evening and weekend hours. Collectively, Henry Ford has more than 30 outpatient medical facilities throughout the tri-county area. Construction of the project will be complete in the next two years.

This pivotal project is just one part of Royal Oak’s overall $110-million civic center development that will also create a new city hall, police station, 581-space parking structure, and a new city park right in downtown.

“Royal Oak is continuing to experience explosive growth to the benefit of residents and we’re happy to help propel the city even further. We knew there was uncertainty when we committed to develop the project on spec, but we did so knowing that it was worth any risk to create a positive impact for this community.” said Boji.
