News Releases: Bristol Hospital and Rendina Start Construction on Downtown Ambulatory Care Center

BRISTOL, Conn., May 23, 2018 – The hard work invested throughout nearly two years of planning, permitting, design and financing will soon be realized for Bristol Hospital. Earlier this month, the hospital broke ground on The Bristol Hospital Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), a 62,000 square foot healthcare facility that promises to help expand healthcare services for the Bristol community. Bristol Hospital selected Rendina Healthcare Real Estate, a leading national developer, owner and manager of healthcare facilities, as its partner on the project.

“The fact that construction has begun on the Ambulatory Care Center is an exciting major step,” said Bristol Hospital President and CEO Kurt A. Barwis, FACHE. “The heavy equipment and work taking place on the site symbolizes Bristol Hospital’s commitment to the community. The Ambulatory Care Center will provide even better access to our providers and services and is win-win situation for Bristol Hospital, downtown Bristol and all the residents within our service area.”

Located at the intersection of Main Street and Riverside Avenue in downtown Bristol, the ACC will be occupied by Bristol Hospital’s Multi-Specialty Group, providing the community with a range of crucial services, including cardiology, endocrinology and diabetes, neurology, orthopedics, rheumatology and urology. In addition to providing affordable and accessible healthcare to the community, the project marks an important step in the revitalization of downtown Bristol, and will give forth to future development as the ACC attracts residents and generates renewed interest in selecting the area as the site for new retail and residential projects.

“We’re thrilled to kick off the redevelopment effort with this important project,” said Steve Barry, Executive Vice President for Rendina. “Bristol Hospital has long been known for outstanding patient care, and the Ambulatory Care Center will provide a first class facility for patients to receive this care in a very convenient and accessible location.”

Working with Bristol Hospital and the City of Bristol to fully understand its vision, Rendina collaborated on a design that blends medical and retail architectural elements, represented by the glass and brick façade and use of natural light throughout – creating an inviting atmosphere that will include a café in the two-story atrium.

“Rendina’s development abilities are highly regarded, as demonstrated by its impressive portfolio of projects across the country,” said Bristol Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu. “Rendina is a strong partner for Bristol Hospital, and more importantly, has gotten shovels in the ground and this project started when they said they would. The city staff that has interacted with them has commented on their professionalism, while adhering to requirements and wishes of its client, Bristol Hospital, and at the same time, supporting the city’s long-term vision of a dynamic downtown.”

The ACC is expected to open in late 2019. Once complete, Rendina Healthcare Real Estate will own and manage the new facility.
