News Release: Kaiser Permanente Opens New State-of-the-Art Medical Office Building in Southwest Santa Rosa

Press Release

‘Next generation’ facility enhances access, quality of patient care

May 21, 2018

The three-story Kaiser Permanente Mercury Way Medical Office Building, located at 2240 Mercury Way, offers a wide range of primary care services, including adult family medicine, pediatric care and obstetrics-gynecology. The facility incorporates on-site pharmacy, lab and imaging services, as well as a Healthy Living education and resource center, and features dermatology, foot and ankle surgery, and physical therapy.

The Mercury Way medical offices are located across the street from a Kaiser Permanente Mental Health and Wellness facility that opened in July 2017. Both locations are conveniently located off of Highway 12 West.

“As the Santa Rosa area continues to recover from the devastating fires that swept the North Bay last year, Kaiser Permanente is proud to be part of that recovery, and is investing in the health of the community with this new medical office,” said Judy Coffey, RN, Kaiser Permanente Marin-Sonoma senior vice president and area manager.

The 87,300-square foot facility is part of a new wave of Kaiser Permanente medical offices that use technology and space to enhance the care experience and to make getting medical care easier and more convenient. This facility is one of three new Kaiser Permanente medical office buildings opening in Northern California this spring.

The Mercury Way medical offices feature innovative design features, including large common areas, express check-in kiosks, and exam rooms where members can better interact with their caregivers. Some of the exam rooms have wide-screen video monitors, which allow direct telemedicine consultations with medical specialists in other locations.

“Our doctors, nurses and staff are committed to providing patient-focused care to all our members,” said Michael Shulman, MD, physician in chief, Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Medical Center. “Leveraging our integrated approach and technology, we look forward to providing an exceptional care experience to our members at this new southwest Santa Rosa location.”

Providing ample space to meet the needs of Kaiser Permanente’s growing membership, the Mercury Way medical office building will house nearly 200 health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, physical therapists, technicians and administrative staff. eightThe facility has:

  • 60 doctors’ offices
  • 95 exam rooms
  • eight procedure rooms
  • On-site café with outdoor patio and wireless internet access
  • Charging stations for electric cars

As part of Kaiser Permanente’s commitment to the environment, the structure meets the highest standards of environmental and sustainable building, including anticipated LEED Gold certification, part of the U.S. Green Building Council new construction rating system. The solar panels covering the parking lot will provide 100 percent of the annual electrical power needed by the building. The “cool roof” reflects heat away from the building and saves energy, ultra-low flow fixtures reduce water use and landscape irrigation uses recycled water. High-tech windows designed to lower energy use automatically darken to prevent glare and become more transparent once the direct sun passes.

In addition to the new Mercury Way Medical Office Building and and the Mental Health and Wellness Center across the street, other nearby Kaiser Permanente facilities include medical offices in Santa Rosa on Old Redwood Highway, Rohnert Park on State Farm Drive and the Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Medical Center on Bicentennial Way.
