Leesburg, VA — Inova Loudoun Hospital (ILH) celebrated a new patient tower groundbreaking among elected officials, community representatives, benefactors, Inova leaders and employees at the hospital’s main campus in Lansdowne.  The patient tower is the next phase of the hospital’s $300M Master Plan expansion of facilities and services.

Working with architecture firm HDR, a global leader in patient experience design, the seven-story, 366,000 square foot tower will offer private rooms, which will feature patient-centered design. Additionally, the new tower will include:

  • more tertiary services, including Level III Trauma at the Inova Virts Miller Family Emergency and Trauma Center and throughout the hospital
  • expanded Inova Heart and Vascular Institute Schaufeld Family Heart Center
  • expanded Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • new obstetrics unit and expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
  • outpatient services, diagnostic imaging, a café, and hospital support
  • shell space for future expansion

HDR created a mock-up tent with several future patient rooms, which allowed staff and patient advisory groups to fine-tune the design.

“This groundbreaking represents our continued promise and commitment to offer world-class healthcare in a cutting edge healthcare facility for the Loudoun community,” commented CEO Deborah Addo, Inova Loudoun Hospital.  “Our dedicated staff is what really makes Inova Loudoun Hospital special. Today we recognized over 100 employees, doctors and staff that have worked here for 20 years or longer.”

Generous benefactors in the Loudoun community, through the “Loudoun Rising” fundraising campaign, supplement Inova’s financial investment in the Master Plan. The $20M campaign supports building additional infrastructure, expanding and other critical initiatives, such as providing additional mental health resources to Loudoun County.

To date, Inova Loudoun Hospital has completed phase one of the Master Plan including site work improvements to provide an increase in surface parking, a new south ingress, a new entrance-canopy and drop off area at the south entrance. As part of phase two, a 766-space parking garage is now open.  The patient tower is expected to be completed in 2020.
