Facility will provide more convenient access to Rush care in western suburbs

Rush and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush began construction this week on a new medical professional building in Oak Brook, Illinois, that will expand access to academic health care in Chicago’s western suburbs. The anticipated opening of the building, located at 2011 York Road, will be spring 2019.
The three-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot facility will feature a multispecialty, state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center; 65 exam rooms; physical and occupational therapy; a laboratory; full imaging services; and a demonstration kitchen for healthy cooking instruction. The building will have an attached parking deck with about 485 spaces.
Rush providers representing nearly 20 specialties will practice in the building, which is a joint venture between Rush and Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, a private practice physician group whose members are on the faculty at Rush University. The total cost of the new building is estimated to be about $65 million.
“We want to make it as convenient as possible for people living and working in the western suburbs to receive the most coordinated, advanced health care from their Rush-affiliated providers,” said Michael Dandorph, president of the Rush system.
Building will include orthopedics, 17 other specialties, surgery center
Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush will occupy the first floor with 16 patient exam rooms along with a cast room, physical therapy, occupational therapy, MRI and X-ray imaging, and durable medical equipment services for orthopedic patients.
On the second floor, 50 patient exam rooms and 7 procedure rooms will be used by Rush physicians representing 17 specialties, including primary care, bariatric surgery, endocrinology, neurology and otolaryngology. The floor will have CT and X-ray imaging as well as a comprehensive breast imaging program with ultrasound and bone densitometry located close to the physician offices/exam rooms.
The building’s third floor will be an outpatient surgery center, where musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and other surgical procedures will be performed. The surgery center will include six operating rooms; two procedure rooms; and 28 patient bays for pre-surgical preparation and post-surgical recovery, including two that will be outfitted for extended recovery for up to 23 hours.
Building on excellence in care
Rush’s orthopedics program consistently has been ranked among the top providers in the country, and it remains the highest-ranked orthopedics program in Illinois, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 “Best Hospitals” issue. It was ranked fourth in the country, up from sixth in the previous year.
U.S. News ranked Rush University Medical Center among the best hospitals in the country in nine specialty areas in 2016 — two more than the previous year. In addition to orthopedics, the following other Rush programs were highly ranked:

In April 2016, Rush opened an outpatient health center in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, providing immediate, primary and specialty care in a neighborhood setting with extended office hours. Another Rush outpatient facility is planned for Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood and slated to open in 2018. In 2017, Rush will expand access to advanced outpatient care at Rush Oak Park Hospital.
