Nearly everyone involved in healthcare real estate (HRE) has heard that the country’s hospitals are living on borrowed time. It will only be a matter of time, we’re told, until hospitals will be caring for only the very sick while most ailments, illnesses and surgeries will be treated elsewhere, such as retail clinics, outpatient facilities or medical call centers.

That day may yet come. But, for now, plenty of new hospital projects are still being planned, proposed and built.
