News Release: Duke Realty reports strong healthcare leasing, project completion activity in first half of 2016

In-service occupancy at mid-year was 95.8 percent – a record high – and three new projects opened: two rehabilitation hospitals in Ohio and one community hospital in Colorado

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 17, 2016 – Duke Realty, an Indianapolis-based nationwide commercial real estate company, reported strong performance in its healthcare portfolio in the first half of the year, with a record occupancy of 95.8 percent on June 30 – the highest since it entered the healthcare sector in 2007. In addition, three major Duke Realty-developed medical facilities opened by mid-year.

A total of 122,221 square feet in leases were signed in the first half of the year, which included 33,302 square feet of new leases and 88,919 square feet of renewals. The 95.8 percent mid-year occupancy rate compares to 95.5 percent occupancy at the beginning of the year.

Standout transactions included 12,076 square feet of renewals at the WakeMed Brier Creek Healthplex in Brier Creek, N.C., and 10,858 square feet of new leases at the same facility. In addition, the company’s entire healthcare portfolio in Raleigh, N.C., is now 100 percent leased.

Duke Realty also reported 36,450-square-feet of lease renewals at the Celebration Medical Plaza on the Florida Hospital Campus in Celebration, Fla.

In addition three major Duke Realty-developed medical projects opened in the first half of the year. This included two rehabilitation hospitals in Ohio – a 67,043-square-foot facility in Cincinnati and a 54,800-square-foot hospital in Cleveland – and the 37,080-square-foot SCL-Emerus Health Community Hospital in Littleton, Colo., near Denver.
