The city of Westminster, north of Denver, desired healthcare services focused on whole body care, health and wellness. That was the impetus for the new St. Anthony North Health Campus, which some call the “hospital of the future.” The campus includes 92 private rooms, three gardens, walking trails, outpatient services, a birthing center with 12 private labor/delivery rooms and bilingual support. The campus offers new and unique amenities such as no waiting time, convenient drop-in daycare for customers, private discharge exit with valet service, and unlimited family and friends visitations.

Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Louisiana officials have worked to rebuild the state’s healthcare system. The opening of the UMC New Orleans complex signals a return to top-notch medical care. The $1.1 billion medical complex has 2.3 million square feet of space and is located in the once-ravaged New Orleans BioDistrict. As a replacement for the hurricane-ravaged Charity Hospital, UMC offers comprehensive primary care and specialty care, research and the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center. It has a capacity for 446 beds, innovative technology and positions all critical functions well above maximum potential flood levels.

MLKMartin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital, Los Angeles

Developer: Martin Luther King Jr. – L.A. Healthcare Corp.

The long-awaited Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital provides medical care to an area that has been without a full-service hospital since 2007. Part of a $650 million medical campus that already includes an outpatient and urgent care centers, the new hospital was built from the ground up to meet the urgent health needs of the community. The design and construction team used tilt-up construction to meet an aggressive construction schedule. The hospital, with a total of 131 beds, including 93 medical/surgical beds, is flanked by an expanded outpatient clinic, an urgent care psychiatric center and a public health clinic.

Parkland HospitalParkland Health & Hospital System, Dallas

Developer: Parkland Health & Hospital System

The showpiece medical facility in Dallas is the new Parkland Hospital, a 17-story inpatient complex that’s part of a $1.3 billion replacement campus for the former, outdated Parkland. The campus includes the 862-bed hospital, a clinic, parking structures and support facilities. The new campus opened in late 2014 and has won numerous design and building awards. Along the way, the project team overcame numerous changes and challenges. For example, when projections for annual emergency department (ED) visits soared to 240,000 from 100,000, the team halted construction on the ED and added a shelled bay of 12 exam rooms.

WakeMedNorth3WakeMed North Family Health & Women’s Hospital, Raleigh, N.C.

Developer: WakeMed Health & Hospitals

WakeMed saw a growing need for women’s services in an area north of Raleigh and responded with a 61-bed, 248,800 square foot women’s hospital that it says combines advanced technology with exceptional services. With a hotel-like, environmentally friendly design, the new hospital creates a tranquil space with large, private rooms and amenities tailored to women and families. Those include 24-hour room service dining; in-room massage therapy and eco-friendly spa products; flower service; and more. The campus will continue to serve men and children through its existing emergency department and outpatient surgery,
