REIT acquires 161,000 s.f. research facility on Boston Medical Center campus

A lot of good things are happening in Boston’s historic South End, a once downtrodden area that one well-known healthcare real estate professional says is now “exploding” with trendy new shops, restaurants and high-end residences.

Helping provide momentum for the area is a four-year, multi-phase $300 million construction project aimed at modernizing and reconfiguring the two-hospital Boston Medical Center (BMC) campus.

Stepping in at the right time to take advantage of this momentum as well the transformation of the BMC is Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Healthcare Trust of America Inc. (NYSE: HTA).
