News Release: Destination Medical Center Corporation (DMCC) Board Adopts DMC Development Plan

ROCHESTER, Minn. (April 24, 2015) – In a landmark vote advancing Minnesota’s largest economic development initiative, the Destination Medical Center Corporation (DMCC) Board of Directors adopted the DMC Draft Development Plan at a special meeting last evening, which followed a public hearing. The 20-year Plan serves as a strategic business plan and framework to guide the implementation of the DMC initiative.

“The Destination Medical Center initiative has the potential to transform Rochester into a global destination for health and wellness. Today, we took another step closer to this goal with the adoption of the 20-year development plan,” said Lt. Governor Tina Smith, DMCC Board Chair. “I want to thank the City of Rochester for approving this plan last month, and community members for attending the public meetings and sharing their input.”

EDA Board Chair Jeff Bolton said, “Today is a big day for Rochester and Minnesota. With the DMCC Board’s adoption of the DMC Development Plan, we will now start moving toward the implementation phase to make this project come to life. As we begin this exciting transition, the EDA will continue to partner with the DMCC Board, the City of Rochester and Olmsted County to determine the approval process, criteria and documentation for DMC projects.”

After more than 200 public meetings and informational sessions in and around Rochester, and with the support of more than 100 ambassadors, the draft Development Plan was presented by the EDA to the DMCC Board in mid-December 2014. The City of Rochester received the plan on January 29 for a 60-day review and public comment period. The City of Rochester hosted two public meetings in February and March and approved the draft Development Plan on March 23.

“The EDA will also be working to elevate awareness of this important initiative beyond Rochester and beyond Minnesota to encourage development,” Bolton added.
