For three years, a development firm tried but did not succeed in landing a site for a new Central Texas Rehabilitation Hospital in Austin. The client, a partnership of RehabCare Group and Seton Family of Hospitals, wanted to move the 20-bed unit out of Seton Medical Center and into a new facility. Once engaged, Prevarian found a site next to the hospital that had local support as well as enough space for a future long-term acute care hospital (LTACH). Prevarian’s efforts included convincing a reluctant land owner – the state of Texas – to sell, and obtaining new zoning for the $20 million, 50-bed rehab hospital.
