Los Angeles Area Medical Real Estate Projects

Despite the struggles of some California providers, there are plenty of cranes on the Los Angeles area skyline. The capital improvement projects are far too numerous to mention. But, here are some of the most significant ones:

  • Los Angeles County and USC Medical Center (LAC+USC), Los Angeles. Completion is slated for January 2007 for this $498 million, 1.5 million square foot, 600-bed replacement of L.A.’s largest hospital. The architects are Hellmuth Obata + Kassebaum (HOK) and Lee Burkhart Liu (LBL) Associated Architects. The general contractor (GC) is MCH, a joint venture of McCarthy Building Cos. Inc., Clark Construction Group and Hunt Construction.
  • Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Los Angeles. This 10-story, 1.25 million square foot, 525-bed replacement of UCLA’s Westwood campus is $80 million over budget and more than a year behind schedule. The cost of the facility is now projected at $677.7 million, and UCLA hopes to begin moving in by December. Contractors say they are owed more than $100 million due to delays and changes by UCLA. Perkins+Will, Pei Partnership and RBB Architects are the architects. Turner Construction and Tutor-Saliba Corp. are the contractors.
